In his chronology of AG's work, published in 'Time', Terry Friedman suggests that, in making these limestone cones, AG was drawing on two references. Firstly the cones mark a step forward for AG, formally and technically, from the stone ball he made in Blaenau Ffestiniog in 1980. Secondly, AG built these cones in response to the 'Nine Standards,' free-standing stone constructions that stand nearby Brough.
